- Ground beef: 1 lb (450 g)
- Uncooked rice: 1 cup (190 g)
- Onion: 1 medium, finely chopped
- Garlic: 2 cloves, minced
- Tomato sauce: 2 cups (480 ml)
- Salt: 1 teaspoon (to taste)
- Pepper: 1/2 teaspoon (to taste)
- Paprika: 1 teaspoon
- Fresh parsley: 1/4 cup, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage leaves by boiling a large pot of water and blanching the whole cabbage for 2-3 minutes.
- Make the filling by mixing ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika in a bowl.
- Assemble the rolls by placing filling in the cabbage leaves and rolling them tightly.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and layer tomato sauce in a baking dish before placing the rolls seam-side down.
- Cover the rolls with remaining tomato sauce, cover with foil, and bake for 1 hour, then remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
Notes
- Overfilling the leaves can cause tearing; stick to 2-3 tablespoons of filling.
- Always blanch the cabbage to ensure pliability.
- Let the rolls rest after baking for better flavor melding.
- Cover the rolls with sauce before baking to keep them moist.
